CPA Review Courses - How Should One Choose?
A high quality review course reduces study time and improves the chances of successfully passing the CPA exam. With plenty of different courses available, it can be challenging to choose the optimal course. The following factors will help you find the ideal CPA exam review course to help guarantee success.

Good review courses have engaging instructors who can explain hard concepts in an easy-to-understand manner. Leading CPA review courses generally make sample lessons available for free so you can see how the course is laid out. There are lots of message boards and sites that offer valuable insight to the better courses. Additionally, the lessons can be obtained from a variety of media, such as live webcasts, CDs, DVDs, or USB. If course material access is restricted, it limits how you can benefit. Also, when looking for a review course, note down any expiration dates for the course materials. As well, some courses have lectures that are only made available to a student for a certain duration before they become inaccessible. The best type of course materials and software does not require access to the net to use, and therefore does not expire. If you buy the type that expires, ensure you have enough time to absorb the information before it expires.

    2) Practice Questions

Practice questions are a great way to make sure students understand concepts and retain knowledge. They help make it easy to retain through use of practical real world examples.

Each of the CPA review courses take varying approaches with practice questions. This method is time intensive, but ensures all topics are covered. A lot of students run out of either time or patience, or both, and rarely get around to finishing many of the example questions, meaning they are not ready for the exam.

Other courses take a different approach and keep practice questions to a minimum. Again, this scenario is far from ideal also.

The ideal CPA review course will contain relevant practice questions. This ensures the highest rate of return for the student's study time by enabling the student to focus on the most important areas.

    3) Student Support

Different CPA review courses provide different levels of customer service. Some courses offer limited student support while other courses provide email support. Before buying a review course, make sure that it will provide the right level of support you need.

    4) Frequency of Updates

CPA exam materials are regularly updated due to changes in accounting procedures. Some review courses update their course materials and practice questions more often than others, so make sure to consider this when selecting a course.

Cost is something else to compare as it varies between courses. Bear in mind it is possible that one or more of the sections results in failure if the 2008 Uniform pass rate is considered - the average pass rate was between 47.49% and 49.10%. Find out which CPA review course is the most highly recommended amongst the many CPA exam review courses on the market today.
